Chinese interest Increasing in South Asia

China’s desperation in seeking help from Nepal to secure higher status if not membership of the SAARC and also having good relationship with India. However, its PLA has not reconciled with this development. While the government seeks to continue and enhance its economic partnership with India, the PLA is allegedly intruding India’s territory regularly.

It was intriguing that when president Xi was on a visit to India last year, there were reports of PLA’s intrusions into the Indian side. It appears that China wishes to continue its warm relations with Pakistan and also have improved relations with India. But maintaining this balance is really a tightrope walk for China. Nepal Seeks SAARC Expenses, Finance Ministry Unconvinced

After months of finishing 18th SAARC summit in Kathmandu, Nepal government agencies have failed to submit ‘convincing details’ of their expenditure during 2014 Summit.

The delay has triggered speculations that there were financial irregularities which has made Ministry of Finance to stop release of Rs 24 million to Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) and Kathmandu Valley Development Authority (KVDA) and other govt agencies in Nepal.

Though the offices have claimed that they spent Rs 85 million and Rs 90.04 million for beautifying the city, KVDA under Ministry of Urban Development planted trees along the Tinkune-Maitighar stretch and construction of parks at Tinkune and Narayanchaur.

KMC Spokesperson Shanta Ram Pokharel said they are preparing the details of expenditure and will submit the details in 2-3 days.

Meanwhile, The finance ministry has also not released Rs 8 million spent by Dhulikhel municipality for the construction of two helipads in Dwarika Hotel Resort in Dhulikhel.
SAARC Summit was held  in November in Nepal's capital city Kathmandu and next edition will be held in pakistan.

Fishermen want SAARC-like body to settle rows

Indian fishermen has approached the Centre as well as neighbouring countries urging them to form an organization along the lines of SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation).

The National Association of Fishermen (NAF) handed letters to external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj as well as various embassies of the member nations: Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Malaysia and Bangladesh to establish independent body to look after the issues that traditional fishermen face mid-sea, and our people must find representation on it. Several disputes tend to crop up when fishermen stray into each other's waters.
